Ingredients

  • 1 cup water 110F, may use milk if desired.
  • 1/4 cup butter melted and cooled.
  • 2.5 cups flour may need more or less. May substitute bread flour or 2 1/4 cups flour + 2 tablespoons gluten.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar adds a touch of sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Kosher salt enhances flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon yeast or 1 packet; may use active dry or rapid rise.

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast thoroughly using a whisk.
  2. Pour in the warm water and melted butter into the dry mixture. Stir vigorously for about 500 strokes or mix in a stand mixer for approximately five minutes until you achieve a wet and sticky dough consistency.
  3. Cover your bowl with a cloth and let it rest in a warm area until it doubles in size, which usually takes about one hour.
  4. After the dough has risen, gently stir it down to release any air bubbles, then scoop it into a greased loaf pan. Allow it to rise again until it doubles in size once more, which should take around 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350F while your dough completes its second rise. Once ready, bake the loaf for about 30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
